The NREC is a university-wide user fabrication and metrology center providing state-of-the-art equipment, professional support personnel and infrastructure to enable multidisciplinary research in nanomaterials and nanomanufacturing methods related to fundamental materials science, sensors, actuators, electronics, bio-systems, medical products, optics and integrated nanoscale systems. The Nanotech I facility supports research projects of faculty, graduates students, undergraduates, and industrial researchers.

The following objectives are being implemented to carry out the mission:

  • Nurturing and enabling multidisciplinary nano related research projects for all interested faculty in all colleges at the University of South Florida.
  • Providing professionally managed state-of-the-art fabrication facilities, analytical instruments and metrology tools for the characterization of nanomaterials.
  • Providing training programs for all interested faculty and students who wish to use the facility.
  • Providing a facility for industrial users working collaboratively with USF faculty to develop competitive processes and products for commercialization of technology.

The Nanotechnology Research and Education Center is excited to announce that the new Hitachi SU-70 High Resolution Scanning Electron Microscope has now been installed in Nanotech l. The National Science Foundation (NSF) MRI program awarded a grant in 2009 for our Center to acquire a high resolution scanning electron microscope (HRSEM) for interdisciplinary research and education at the University of South Florida (USF). The HRSEM instrument with ultra high resolution and optimized analytical functionality will provide much-needed improvement to the research infrastructure at the USF.
